stomach flu and washing diapers (grossness inside)
This is nasty--you have been warned.
![]() Today is day 3 of stomach flu and the diarrhea began.. oh joy. The diapers are unbelievably gross. I did a double rinse to start, a hot wash with a full scoop of detergent and oxiclean (both), a triple rinse after, and they STILL stink. I can't believe that didn't get it out, but here we are. I am tempted to just use chlorine bleach, but there are 3 covers in that load--2 minky and 1 pul--and I am afraid it will ruin them. On the other hand, they are ruined if they smell like stomach flu diarrhea anyway ![]() Any ideas for disinfecting? Please?

Add 1/8 to 1/4 cup of chlorine bleach to your initial rinse, then launder as usual. My covers have been fine. I only do this for super poop loads.

This. It would disinfect them, also.

Bleach shouldnt hurt your covers, unless they are cotton on the outside (like Weehugger). But another solution would be bacout.. I can use just 3 drops in my front loader and it works as well as 1/4 bleach! Wonderful stuff! Now stains, I dont think Bacout helps me with stains, but the sun will take care of that, just spray part lemon juice, part water on the diapers and set them outside. Keep spraying if they dry and are still stained.
Works everytime.

Dd had a stomach bug last week, still getting over it kinda. When there wasn't anything to scrape or plop they went in the washer as-is and I bleached every load. I have pul covers as well, and its fine. I used to bleach all my pockets every load until I realized it was my detergent that wasn't cleaning them. No fading, wearing of elastic or PUL. I used 1/4-1/2 cup of bleach, just because that was toxic smelling stuff inside there.
I did a hot pre-wash (like always), nothing added. Hot wash with detergent and bleach, two rinses. I poured the bleach in a bowl and diluted it, then added it once the water had filled almost all the way. I poured the diluted bleach into the stream of water, just to make sure it wouldn't hit anything directly.

Re: stomach flu and washing diapers (grossness inside)
My son had nasty smelling green diarrhea for 6 weeks. I turned my hot water up as hot as it would go added 1/2 cup bleach plus detergent then filled with hot water before adding the contents of the diaper pail. I let them sit for 30 min to let the bleach kill any bacteria. My wet bags are the only things I have with PUL and it doesn't seemed to have harmed them.
