Math help
My DD will be 13 this summer. She is struggling with math terribly. We have been using saxon 5/4 for for a couple years now...its time to move on and find a new program. She should be in 8th grade math this comming year...but is going to have to start at 5th grade level again. So tell me: what is your favorite math program and why? I have combed the internet for online math programs as well...cant seem to find what I need. She needs remedial work. Maybe something with hands on manipulative kit or something. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Math help
My ODS hates math. He is going into seventh grade this coming year but won't be doing that level of math. We are going to try Life of Fred. You can see the books here: www.ztwistbooks.com/
I'm doing Math-U-See with DD and DS2 this year as well. It's very hands-on. You can see it here: www.mathusee.com/ They also have placement tests available so you can see where she would need to start. DD is 1st grade and doing alpha this year and DS2 is 4th grade and doing Delta this year. I've also heard amazing things about Teaching Textbooks. It seems to take things nice and slow, and even seems to be a level under where it says it is. I haven't done more than check out the sample lessons as it's too pricey for us. But that one is here: www.teachingtextbooks.com/ We've bought all of our stuff used both here and at www.homeschoolclassifieds.com/ along with amazon.com/ with great success. HTH!

Re: Math help
Sounds like she just doesn't learn in a Saxon way. I second the pp who mentioned Math-U-see. I have also heard great things about Math Mammoth. That would be great because you can get the whole program and move at her own pace until she catches up.

I've been loving teaching textbooks. Easy for them to work independently and the lessons are explained well I think.

Re: Math help
I would try Teaching Textbooks. They go at a much slower pace and don't throw so much at a student at learn.
I would at least have her do the placement tests just to see where she is with their program because it tends to be "lower" grade wise to other math curriculum's. (ie we completed Horizons Math 3 and my DD placed in TT5)

I like that the teaching textbooks and math u see have the cds/dvds...has anyone used both these programs and could give me pros and cons of each or how they compare? I do think that math u see is a but more in our budget. The tt its expensive even used on ebay..but at this point I an desperate to find something that will help her!
