reflux, enfamil AR, constipation

Can I add BM to his bottles to help that? Juice, Karo? I am so lost with this little boy.
He's still spewing his bottles at least once a day now.
He didn't poop yesterday. Finally did this morning. It was hard and he screamed the entire time.
He's ok now. But what can I do to help.

Have you considered switching to nutramigen? DS had horrible reflux and constipation, he would only go 1 time a week, and his ped thought maybe a milk allergy, so we used the hypoallergenic formula. It gives a bf style poo and fixed all of our problems. We noticed a difference in 2 days and had a completely new baby in a week. It was a miracle! He's now 4 and after allergy testing, he is allergic to wheat and sensitive to milk. He had a reaction, but not severe enough to be considered an allergy. We are now able to cook with milk and he eats cheese and yogurt in moderation, but still primarily use almond milk. It may be something worth talking to your ped about or just trying a couple of days worth to see if it helps.

It is very expensive and smells funny, but dh and I got over that as soon as we saw the difference. And our ped was really good about stocking us with lots of samples at every appointment!

When he was born for the first 3-4 days he had an awful facial rash. His chin and cheeks would become bright red and rashy looking, we thought milk allergy(I was breastfeeding then).
Then it just went away.
About 2 weeks we started noticing gas and watery poop(he was mostly breastfed, pumped BM and formula at night) he used Similac.
Then all of a sudden he would scream while he ate, wasn't sleeping-except at night. He would spit up. Straighten out his legs and curl his back. He looked like he was in severe pain.
At his 1 month appt his pediatrician gave me Enfamil AR to try. I just had to buy some more 2 weeks later and we bought the Up&Up brand, Saturday morning.
Could it have been that brand?
I'm gonna call the Pediatrician to see what I can do for the immediate help.

Change brands/formulas. It absolutely could be. You can add some prune juice or depending on the age, prune puree. Formula can cause constipation so I'd change formulas if it is that bad. Gerber's Good Start - just 3 oz a day made my son poop.

Re: reflux, enfamil AR, constipation

When the bear was a month old, her doctor put her on 1 teaspoon of baby pear juice per bottle, 2 if that didn't work, or 1/2 if it worked too well.

She went on antibiotics a month ago and has been even more constipated since then. Karo in her bottles until today, when the doc said juice and Karo. If she is still having trouble at 12 months, she'll go on some stool softener.

We are also on Enfamil AR, got off zantac around 7 months, but regular formula produced disastrous results. Good luck!

Re: reflux, enfamil AR, constipation

My DD is almost 11 month old, but had the same symptoms of relfux as your LO is having. It was so terrible that she would immediatley start crying when I put a bib on her and it would continue for a good hour after she ate. It was awful for all of us. We had a test done at the hospital that confirmed a pretty severe case of reflux. She has been on Sam's Club Sensitive formula pretty much since birth, but her constipation set in when she started prilosec to control the reflux. We tried different types of juice and some days it seemed to help, but mostly juice didn't cut it. The GI Specialist put her on lactulose which didn't help at all so our Pedi put her on Miralax which has worked wonders for her. Hopefully at her next GI appt we can get her off the prilosec and the miralax. Good luck!

Thank you. He is doing better with the AR. He doesn't spit up as much, and he has a healthy appetite, but still girgles a lot, and coughs a lot, looks like drool though. I don't know.

Re: reflux, enfamil AR, constipation

My daughter was constipated badly by the Enfamil AR so we mixed it 50/50 with regular formula. It still helped a with spit up but she was able to poop. We were able to drop the AR at 6 months when her reflux resolved completely.
