What's the best carrier for a large baby?
What's the best carrier/sling/wrap for a large baby? What's the weight limit?
DS just turned 6 months old and 24.5lbs and 29+ inches. I have been using my Moby with him. When we're out and about and he often wants out of the stroller. The Moby isn't a small or a quick snap & buckle, KWIM? TIA! |

Re: What's the best carrier for a large baby?
I don't have any experience with any carrier except ring slings so I am sure others can give a better response but wanted to give what I know.
I have used our ring slings until my children were 40lbs. Recently out of curiosity I put my 9 year old 62lb son in my ring sling to see if it was possible. Not only was it possible he didn't hurt my back at all. I was able to walk around with him in it. Now I am not saying I do this all the time but if needed I can. I am only 5'1" tall. My son comes to my chin. Attachment 113718 Last edited by qsefthuko; 08-07-2012 at 06:45 PM. |

I have a Beco Butterfly 2 and a Babyhawk Oh Snap, both which are rated to 45 lbs.
My dd is about the size of your lo and I find the Oh Snap to be the most comfy. |

Re: What's the best carrier for a large baby?
My son was a big boy and my ergo really saved my back. I am interested in trying a ring sling soon though. I really couldn't get the hang of tying a mei tie or a wrap.

Re: What's the best carrier for a large baby?
Well, the ERGO, BEco Butterfly II, Boba and Babyhawk OS are all up to 45 lbs. The bigger bodied carriers are the Boba and the BH OS. I actually still love my original ERGO's with my big 3 yo as well b/c of the seat darts and the nice, deep seat for her!

Re: What's the best carrier for a large baby?
My son is 20lbs at 5 months and hated the ergo and moby, but liked the fleuville one at walmart. I didn't like using it much though because it's more a crotch dangler, I found a beco on clearance and they told me I could return it if I didn't like it, ds loves it, falls asleep and is super happy. I tried to put him back in the ergo after trying it to see if maybe he just decided he likes being in a carrier and he was screaming right away. I'm a beco fan now!

Re: What's the best carrier for a large baby?
I would recommend an Ergo Baby Carrier. It can be used up to 45 lbs. It is great for big babies/toddlers. I can wear my almost 3 year old still.
