wool and lanolizing question
I have some wool.... I thought I'd love it, but I've yet to use it without leaks. I'm not sure if I've done something wrong.
I purchased a Kiwi Pie M wool cover used. It doesn't not quite fit fully over the velour Kiwi Pies that we have, so I got wicking around the legs where it was exposed. I also purchased a Disana wool cover used that said it probably needed lanolized. So I washed/lanolized both with some instructions I found online. When I used the disana after that, it soaked through. I hadn't used it prior so maybe it came to me this way, not sure. Any thoughts on why? I haven't tried the KP but need to. I don't plan on keeping it, but obviously want to know if it's working before I sell it. Is there a way to test it without putting it on her? TIA |

Re: wool and lanolizing question
How many times have you lanolized it? Sometimes new wool needs to be lanolized a few times for it to work properly.

Re: wool and lanolizing question
If the wool is a poor fit on your baby, no amount of lanolizing is going to prevent leaks thru the leg gaps.
I feel there is some particular type of wool used in certain machine knits (disana and sbish) that is glossier than other wools (aristocrats, kissas), which makes it harder to lanolize. agree with pp about havibg to lanolize multiple times...

Re: wool and lanolizing question
Ok good to know... I'll try that. I was afraid maybe I had over-lanolized if that's even possible.
I know the KP cover we are going to have to sell cause it's just not going to work, but I want to make sure where it's covering that it's not soaking through before I try to sell it. I wouldn't want to sell someone something that wasn't working. Thanks! |
