Re: serger?

I just picked up a Brother 1034D on craigslist, as I want to keep my cost low until I know that I'm definitely a serger girl. Good luck!

Re: serger?

I had a singer serger and it broke after 4 months. To get it fixed was more than I paid for it originally. I have a brother 1034d now and LOVE it. It's WAY easier to thread it all. If I snapped a thread on my singer or had to switch colors, that was the end of my night sewing. W/ the brother, I can switch the threads out so easily that I can do several colors in a night.

I also just bought a serger and love it! I got a Brother 1034d. VERY easy even though I was a novice with it.

Re: serger?

I am in the process of looking for a backup serger just for rolled hems. Yesterday I went and tried out the Pfaff 4862 I believe it was called, I was not impressed. It would probably be just fine for regular light sewing, but for my business I didn't think it would work for me. It just seemed lighter and cheaper than the one I have now. My serger now is a Janome Compulock, it is fabulous and I think I am just a serger snob! I have decided to save up longer and get a Babylock.

Re: serger?

I have an old kenmore that I bought on craigslist. I hear of so many newer ones breaking and mine is still running strong! It's older and it's HEAVY, but man oh man is it a workhorse.

Re: serger?

I have a pfaff 4.0 I like it. I recommend going to your local store and trying them all out and find the one that works for you. Bring some fabric that you plan to use it with. Make sure it can do everything you need it for. I'm not an expert but I wanted a machine that I would be able to use without a large learning curve and could keep for many years. HTH
