Re: anxiety over your childs health

This is where my severe OCD began. I am terrified I am going to give my child a disease, syndrome, or illness (even though I don't have any) or will be the cause of a major accident.

Whenever he falls, hits his head, ect I immediately blame myself for not watching him close enough. When we found out DS has a heart defect I started thinking it was something I took while pg with him. I now know it's a genetic issue and nothing I could have done, but did it come from my family?

I always think he's eaten a battery or coins without any evidence that it's happened. I am pg with #2 and I worry that my anxiety will just double!

No one ever talks about the fear and stress that comes with having children...

I do and with good reason (cancer scare, testing for CF, seizure, respiratory failure, failure to grow for five months, etc.). It seems my children are destined to each suffer at least one major health concern in their first year.

I voted "other" we've been through the ringer with health issues so I am cautious but try not to be overly worried. I NEVER ignore my gut feelings and we frequently seek treatment but I try to keep things in perspective. I follow the prepare for the worst but plan for the best rule of life

This is SO important!!!

I knew from the moment my daughter was born that something was not right, we saw tons of specialist, where diagnosed with things, and outgrew diagnosis. Where being monitored and watches for multiple issues with yearly checks. I knew in my gut that something was not right, that there was something going on (and still do to this day) suffered from Dr telling me over and over again that I was over reacting, but my instincts held true. And one month before my dd's 5th bday she was diagnosed with cancer.

Now I'm not saying that ever fear we have as moms is real or true, but I will say that IF your mothering instincts are telling you that something is not right you should exhaust all resources to make sure that your instinct is wrong. Don't settle on a Lazy know it all Dr, or a dr taking the "its such a small chance" my daughters cancer is one in a million pediatric cancers diagnosed!!!!

i never thought anything was wrong until my ds one year check up we had been going to the same pediatrician since he was born but when my dh went on deployment we moved home to stay with family and i didnt know any peds there so i just yook him to my moms family doctor i thought it would be fine for just one appt. and they basically tortured him trying to take blood from a vein in his arm and they couldnt get it so they decided to just prick his finger aand he was already histerical by that point and they kept squeezing hos finger over and over to get a vial full anyway a couple weeka later the nurse called and said i needed to come in to discuss his blood work and she basically said it could be leukemia and instead of telling me she wanted tk re do the blood work because something messed up i dont know she could have said anything but that! anyway she re did the blood work and she said it was normal except he was anemic well after that i didnt trust her so i found a pediatrician and took ds to them and they said his blood work was fine and that he was anemic but i still didnt feel right so i took him.to a hemotologist and they confirmed the same thing but ever since that doctor said that to me i have been a wreck just constantly looking for symptoms or googling things and then thinking he has some othwr horrible thing wrong i just cant shake the feeling and i just feel so stressed all the time

No, she had many other health issues (bleeding GI, vascular issues, dietary issues, birthmarks, kidney reflux, GI reflux, possible NF) that we have been dealing with with NO diagnosis since birth, well 6 months of age really.
