Can you help me find an agnecy that will ...... UPDATE MORE HELP PLEASE

I contacted my foster care instructor. He has been involved in foster care and adoption for many years. He said he is going to take this request to his supervisor on Monday He needs to know some info though. If you ladies have any or would like to help me gather some I would appreciate it. I am no google wizard thats for sure. He asked me to find out "how detailed of a home study they would need and what other responsibilities they required from us." Also any other state requirements.

Any help or even encouragement is greatly appreacited

DH and I are interested in adopting a child from a photo listing in Oregon. This is the second time we have seen a child we would like to adopt from another state but I have not been able to find an agency in Michigan that works with foster children from other states. Can anyone help me? Do you know of an agency? Willing to try to help figure it out? I have googled and made calls today and come up with nothing.

I came up with some infant adoption agencies that are very affordable which is great but we are thinking this might be a better option as it would be great to truly help a child needing a home rather than take a child that 5 other people are on the same list for.

Any help or advice is GREATLY appreciated as I feel like I am hitting brick walls here.

How exiting! Waiting children are a great option. Good luck whatever you find out!

Most photo listing sites have a place to contact the social worker to express interest in the child. However, I think most of them require you to already have an adoptive home study done. So, I Think that what you do is get a home study done from an agency local to you and then contact CPS where the child is. But, I'm not sure because then you would being paying for the home study yourself... I don't know how you get around that when you don't want to foster locally as generally there is no cost. But, I am guessing the local agencies wouldn't put the time/$$ into doing your homestudy if you weren't going to foster for them.

I contacted them via the website and they sent back a generic letter stating that I would need to get a home study done by an agency that handles out of state, foster adoptions. It clearly stated not to just use any agency as they may not properly comply with the right regulations for out of state.

My problem is I can't figure out how to do that

This sounds so frustrating! I hope you get somewhere with your foster care worker.

Are you in contact with A Family For Every Child? They were very helpful when I was talking with them. I've exchanged many emails with Christy, who is the director of the agency. She's very passionate about getting kids adopted.

Eta: it can be hard to adopt kids in Oregon. There are huge lists of kids but the state doesn't work hard to get them adopted and sometimes refuses because they are afraid the parents won't stick it through with the kids. they also aren't very on top of going through with tpr, even when kids have been in the system for years.

misskira it right about Oregon. We had a sibling group selected, they assigned us a worker and so we thought that we were going to get them. Then they asked us for a photobook for the committee to look at and then use as a transition tool. Well, Oregon selects a couple of options for the kids, then looks through the book and the home studies and picks a family and a back up family. We felt like we were very led along, we were selected as the back up family, but never heard from them again. We were sad, but got a healthy newborn through out state a few weeks later-- maybe the process kept us on the SW's mind and that is why we got DS.
