Umbilical Hernia?

Does this look like an umbilical hernia? I've been wondering on and off for a while, since DD2's belly button looks much healthier and better healed...

The ones I've seen on infants has a bulge all around the belly button too (like lifting the bb up and a few inches around it). I bet there are different severities of it though.

A hernia is more of a bulge

Yeah. My sons bb is like that too. It's an inny-outy. Lol. A hernia is a bulge & the one I've seen is way more apparent than that. But if you are concerned see a doctor.

My DD1 had/has herniated belly button. When she was EBF she'd poop about every 5 days - by that 5th day her belly button (an innie) would be pushed up like a toadstool stem above the rest of her belly. (It never caused her pain, Drs have never been concerned.)

Although it has gotten much better, when she has a really full belly we can still notice a bit of a raise to it at 2.5 yrs.

if it is, it seems very slight. I doubt it will cause her any problems

Thanks for the replies! I got to looking at pictures and found one that looks JUST like my DD's belly button, so wanted to hear some experienced opinions.

I'll ask her ped to take a look when we next see him, it hasn't given her any issues or anything, so no rush, I'm just wondering.

DD had one when she was born - it would poke out far more when she was crying, or otherwise straining her tummy muscles, so check for that. But even then, the doctor just said we would wait it out and see if it healed itself first, and talk about them closing it later on if it didn't eventually improve (it's gone now)

Attachment 123908It was hard to tell on my smaller pics but I think it was improving here. When the doctor looked at it she said she wasn't going to refer him to a specialist because she had recently referred a baby with a worse hernia to a specialist and they said to wait it should heal up on it's own. They would only do something this young if it was causing pain. This would be a sign of a pinched intestine.
