I have been using Spalding this year with my Kindergartener….we love it!
I originally bought The Writing Road to Reading on Amazon, and then I bought the Home Educators course at the Spalding store, which included another copy of The Writing Road to Reading. Thus, my extra copy is up for grabs.

I also bought “Starting a Spelling Notebook, A Nuts and Bolts Guide to the Writing Road to Reading” because I knew it had lesson plans laid out in it for homeschoolers. After it arrived, I realized that the lessons were for children in grades 2-12. The lesson plans somewhat assume that your child can already read and that they are already writing, so it didn’t work out for us because I needed the instruction for a younger child. The Nuts and Bolts guide also doesn’t include any lesson plans for handwriting (which I also needed). The format of this guide is great; it would have been something I would have used if my DS were older.

I am also including the Spalding Phonogram Sounds CD, which has been helpful in learning to pronounce the phonograms correctly for reading, writing and spelling.

So, if you want an amazing spelling or reading program for a younger student (or a remediation program for an older student)…this Spalding lot is awesome! However, if you need something for a Kindergarten-age student my recommendation would be to buy the Home Educators course at the Spalding store (including the Kindergarten Teacher’s guide) & be sure to watch the instructional courses to get going with the program.
