We love all things Brio here. They are known for their trains but the have other awesome toddler toys, too. We have a few pieces of Haba but most of it is out of my budget. Plan Toys are okay, too. Their quality is right there with Melissa and Doug or just a little better. They have great prices.

It's been years, but I will always adore Hearthsong. My kid is 20 yrs old now, and I still want to shop there.

My favorite educational toys are discovery toys. You can buy them direct (I think) at discoverytoys.com but you can find their toys on amazon and ebay.

Re: best place to buy learning toys?
I like to look at the preschool/teacher supply catalogs for ideas - Lakeshore Learning, Constructive Playthings, Discount School Supplies. I figure if a toy can stand up to a preschool class, it might stand a chance with my kid.

Re: best place to buy learning toys?
Magic cabin has great toys. Not necessarily learning toys, but different, well made toys.
