Question about selling used homemade carriers?

I have a couple mei tai carriers that I made and kept for myself and my daughter. I love them but I also am trying to save up for a wrap. I know in 2013 there are new laws about selling carriers and being able to track them for liability reasons. I am wondering if that applies to used homemade items?

Re: Question about selling used homemade carriers?

I hadn't heard about the law change... I can't imagine it would apply to homemade used carriers. As long as your upfront about how you made it, materials used etc and made it safely (seam allowance and x boxes) and you're not making a business out of it, just selling carriers you made for your own personal use. I don't see a problem.

Re: Question about selling used homemade carriers?

My understanding is that it applies to all carriers made for sale in the US, including WAHM products (which many beloved carrier brands are). It does not affect resale, so I am not sure that it would apply to your carriers made before the phase in-date, although certain parts of the law (regarding labeling, registration, lead testing etc) have been in effect for a while. It would probably be best to ask someone from BCIA (baby carrier industry alliance), as they have been working with many WAHM to help them come into compliance.

I would also consult the BCIA to get information that specifically pertains to your situation.
