Should organic cotton flats be more absorbent than flour sack towels??

I've been using flour sack towels for a few months now and love them. They're soft and they work great for daytime for my almost 2 year old. But I bought some organic cotton flats from a local mama thinking they'd be more absorbent. Well, they aren't? They're smaller by about 2 inches on one side, but the same length as my flour sack towels, but when I tested them by pouring the same amount of water on each one, they both absorbed it all and were basically full. I couldn't have added any more water to either, and the organic flats are more rough feeling than my flour sack towels too. Is that just what organic cotton feels like??

Maybe the size is making the difference or something. I don't know, I'm just kind of disappointed and feeling like I should have stuck with what I knew I liked rather than trying to find something better.

I found my gmd organics to be slightly more absorbent, but yes a bit rougher too.

Flour sack towels make really great diapers

organic cotton seems to take more washes to gain best absorbency, and also not as quick absorbing as plain cotton, ya know what i mean? i just bought some flour sack towels, can't wait to really use 'em/break them in!
