FFS
edit: This would be a winter hatch! Something fun to keep ya busy. Then, they will be laying come spring. The breeds of the hens are rsl(red sexlink) star-bsl(black sexlink) buckeye br(Plymouth barred rock) light brahma cochin-blk and blue australorp-black I think that's it, lol? All will have at least some leg and foot feathering from the fathers side. I'm thinking the cost couldn't be more than $10 for sure. I will check for an accurate price when it's time. This would be 6 eggs. I have a wonderfully tempered standard blk cochin roo over them. A homemade incubator runs under $20 and I'd be happy to provide a link to excelent instructions. It's super easy. This is one of the chicks I hatched last month.

Re: Would there be interest in hatching chicken eggs?
I would have to find out the rules here, though we could possibly keep them at my partner's dad's house once they hatched. Would you be able to give us some information on how to care for the chickens once they're hatched?

Re: Would there be interest in hatching chicken eggs?
I'm actually talking about a winter project. I'm doing most of my chicks now too.
I'd be very happy to provide links on all the best and most helpfull sites I found on hatching and raising. I think I have over 100 things saved to favs from all the constant reading, lol. The thing is, I have to send the freshest eggs. They loose successfull hatching rates fast after 7 day being layed. I may do 2 winners? Eggs are a little scarce with the lack of daylight and the cold right now. If I did 2 winners, I'd have to ship a week apart to ensure the freshest eggs. I can't tell who, but many of my hens have stopped laying for the winter. Incase you want to do some reading now, backyardchickens.com has tons in their learning centre! Also, we have a homestrad forum here on ds. I do a chicken moma chat thread there as well each month. Lots of sharing, chatting, help, advice, just a nice friendly enviroment. It's under green families. Most don't know it's there. Here's a link!http://www.diaperswappers.com/forum/...play.php?f=226

Re: Would there be interest in hatching chicken eggs?
ooh! look at those furry feet. i love the feather footed breeds.
i'm not familiar with a couple of those abbreviations -- what are rsl and br? i have an incubator and would love to give these a go. what hatch rates have you been getting? i wonder how shipping would affect that. BYC is a terrible terrible place for a poor chicken lover to hang out. i never visit without discovering a new breed i want to try! right now i'm keeping a dozen hens for a friend, and i have 3 little pullets of my own-- two americanas and a maran. |
