Making placenta pills but it's dehydrating black. :(

I had a friend come over today to help me do the steaming of my placenta, and it's been in the dehydrator for a while now, but my dehydrator is old and I can't control the temperature of it. It's not excessively hot, but all my placenta pieces are black now. Is this okay or are they ruined?

I have a friend who encapsulates, I will send her a message and let you know. I'd bet someone with personal knowledge responds before I do though

Mine were pretty close to black! I didn't steam though, I dehydrated raw. If they are in thinner pieces, which is better, they will be darker. I certainly wouldn't toss it! Do they smell burnt? If the temp is too high, can you prop open some space between the trays, maybe with some toothpicks?

My friend asked if you had drained it first, she said it sounds like maybe not and that would be why it turned black. She said it shouldn't hurt, but may not be true TCM. I say keep going!

Black is fine! Black is usually just the blood dehydrating around the pieces. As long as it doesn't smell burnt you should be fine. If you're concerned cut one in half and see what the inside looks like.

Mine looked almost black - really dark brown. I'd say you're ok as long as it doesn't smell burnt.

Yeah, mine are pretty dark, I had a professional do them so I can't speak to the process, but the end result is a DARK pill. Good luck mama. Those things turn me into a fountain of breastmilk!

I went ahead and pressed on and once the pieces were ground, they looked and smelled like dirt, lol, so I think I'm good.
