Kickers...

My 8 month old snuggles up next to me at the start of a nursing session then he proceeds to kick me and try to do acrobatics... All with my nipple in his mouth. I've tried giving him a blanket to hold into, a toy, nursing necklace... Nothing is working. Any suggestions?

Re: Kickers...

My 9 month old does this. He does breastfeeding gymnastics. It drives me crazy. The only time he does not do it is when he is ready to sleep. Then he flips and flops from one boob to the other over and over like a dog walking in circles before settling down.

Re: Kickers...

In my house, that simply isn't allowed. A simple, "we sit still when we're nursing" is all I do. If they won't be still, then they're not wanting to nurse, they want to play. We go play. I am a very "strict" mom when it comes to nursing manners. My oldest nursed until 38 months following the "rules". I am currently tandeming a 2 yo and 5 mo. We always follow the rules.

Re: Kickers...

Usually if my DD was kicking and squirming a lot at that age, she wasn't really all that hungry and we found something else to do. Or I was able to make funny faces and be silly while she was nursing, and that entertained her and had her giggling, rather than kicking me in the face. As she got older and able to understand more, I was able to do the "we sit still when we're nursing" PP mentioned.

He hasn't stayed swaddled since he was a week old. He is a little Mover. I might have to try the we don't play while nursing technique. Thanks ladies.
