I've been having trouble stretching the Snappis far enough to reach the corners of my PFs without digging into Wyatt's belly. And he has made it clear to me that it's not acceptable
. So I ordered some Dritz pins, and they'll probably be in the mailbox tommorow (Friday) morning, but I'm TERRIFIED to actually try them ... I was hoping all you pin experienced mamas could give me a tutorial on how to use pins to get a nice snug fit, without poking my precious boy. I've heard the trick about using soap to make them slide nicer, but other than that I'm clueless. Seriously, treat me like an idiot , and walk me through, step by step... any techniques you've got! Thanks!

Re: New to pins... help me!
The soap is a good idea. It really takes practice to get a good fit. Practice putting the pin through several layers of the prefold before if you are nervous just so you know how much pressure is needed to get it through. You might know this already but the drtiz pins have a lock feature, you have to pull the colored part up a bit before you can get them open. Someone I know thought hers were deffective because she couldn't open them
Have both pins open before you start. get one side of the diaper together , slip your fingers between the baby and the diaper or pinch the diaper up a bit so you won't poke him and with the other hand apply the pin. When you do the other side pull it really tight because it will loosen up when you let go. I usually had the pin openings pointed towards the back because DS would always pull on them when he went coverless and I was afraid he would unlock the pin. I switched to pins for the same reason the snappis just didn't seem comfy anymore. I really liked them after I got used to it. I hope all that made some sense I am up really late tonight

Re: New to pins... help me!
Diane pretty much covered it. I switched to pins for the same reason- and now prefer them.
I would suggest practicing a few times on a doll/stuffed animal. It'll give you a feel of how to hold the prefold, pin, etc and boost your confidence. I put my fingers behind the pf so no sticking baby. I have stuck myself 3-4 times, but haven't in a long time (now that I'm an old pro, lol). You may find you have to pin one side, then the other, then go back and tighten the first side. Once you figure out where to pull the pf too you won't have to do that as often. http://www.diaperpages.com/angel_fold.php shows good placement of a pin- Low to keep the thigh closed. Fill the pin with as much fabric as possible so it won't loosen so much- and pull the fabric TIGHT. Give ds something to distract him. If he's overly squirmy just trifold and try the pins again next time. Relax! YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

Re: New to pins... help me!
When I put pins in DD dipes, They face the same way, both points pointing left. This is easier for me since I am right handed. Putting them in at an angle is key too.
As far as your snappi goes- is it new? Sometimes new ones need to be sretched out and then they are more, well, stretchy!! HTH!
