You'll know when you open it. If it is completely gray with an off smell and sticky surface then I wouldn't use it.

Thanks everyone. It looked and smelled okay, so i went for it. Tasted fine, too. My dd doesn't like meat, so only dh and I ate it, which made me feel better about it.
