Simple moms of girls... Anyone with me?

I hereby solemnly swear that I will never, EVER put some ridiculously oversized bow on my daughter's beautiful head, dress her in anything that has writing on the a$$, or buy her something that she isn't allowed to get dirty in. Seriously, the clothes for girls are ridiculous. Why does this societal pressure to "look pretty" begin with newborn sizes? Am I the only one who doesn't want to whore my daughter out to the consumer machine the moment she is born? She's beautiful, and I don't want to hide that beauty beneath some poofy oversized flower or overpriced, over-the-top, cutesy-named outfit. Thanks but no thanks, Matilda Jane!

Rant: OVER

Oh and don't forget the RIDICULOUSLY short shorts! She is 2.5 and I only bought ONE pair of girl shorts, the rest are boys shorts because they need to have longer than a 1" inseam in size 3T. And the shirts seem so much more snug IMO. I buy 4T just so she isn't being suffocated in them.
I have 3 boys, 2 girls, I'm glad I'll have hand-me-downs for dd2 so I don't have to try to find more clothes to fit a little girl properly.

I agree! DD has some dresses, but if she gets 'em dirty, so be it! Also, why are little girls (I am talking like 12-18 month sized) pants so freaking TIGHT!!?

They are all like little snug leggings/skinny pants . . . not only are they ridiculous, but difficult to fit over her fluffy bum. Thank goodness for baby legs and t shirts, amiright?

Yes! I totally agree. My dd was out in brown boys shoes, jeans, and a navy blue big bird sweatshirt today. Her hair was tied back out of her eyes but it was a simple hairtie. No bows ever! :-)

When my daughter was just new, I embroidered socialist slogans, painted subversive bits of poetry, and (my favourite) a print of Duchamp's urinal with "Dada loves me" all over the cutesy, twee, ruffly, ribbony, glittery or otherwise objectionable clothes we got at the thrift store. I *love* her newborn pictures. I should do that again...

I think we need to see some pics!

DD has a shirt with a little punk baby on it that says "Anarchy in the Pre-K"

Agree! Halter tops, one should tank tops, skirts that get in her way when she crawls - forget it!

Re: Simple moms of girls... Anyone with me?

I am here to warn you it doesnt matter how plain you raise them the DIVA gene may still get them! LOL!
I am one of the most plain people on the planet. When my ODD was born I revolted against the system! NO PINK!!! She rocked every color but pink and some boys clothes as well. Now at 11 almost 12 she is such a princess diva. She loves sparkle and I never not once put it on her. She loves zebra print. She has a fashion sense that I never have had or will have and she is cute as a button. I will not allow writing on her bum and I do require shorts to be a certain length (it is hard her legs are seriously like a mile long) I do allow tank tops but they must be tasteful if that can happen.
I will say she loves the dirt. She rides on the four wheeler and runs in the mud. She is always into something outside. She loves soccer and plays it with an undying love.
I agree with everyone that manufacturers are creating a young diva line of clothing but just because you fight doesnt mean you wont get one anyway. I love her though DIVA and all!
