Re: Post-partum thyroid problems & bfing?
I think I need to get tested too. I am no longer ebfing because of meds for another medical condition, but I am wondering if that condition has been aggravated by a thryroid problem. My hair is falling out . . . and I don't mean just normal pp shedding. And I am soooo tired and worn down. I don't know. I dread going to the doctor again; however, on the current meds I am unable to bf and I think we are just treating symptoms possibly and not the underlying cause. From what I gleaned off the net, I don't know how compatible thryoid meds are w/ bfing either. I doubt I will ever get back to ebfing, but I would like to do some. *sigh*

Re: Post-partum thyroid problems & bfing?
I've had hypothryoid disease since I was 15. I wasn't being treated when I got preggo with dd. My TSH levels were 29.1 at my first prenatal visit. Got on Synthroid again. After having dd, they fluctuated a bit, dd had some issues with her thryoid as well. But now they seem to have settled down
Never really had an issue with bfing, It was a bit of a rough start, my milk came in on the 5th day pp. She lost an ounce in a week, I was told to supplement but didn't and pumped and nursed as much as I could. Still bfing strong 21 months later ![]() I take 100mcgs of Synthroid everyday. Doesn't bother Dakotah and her thyroid is functioning fine now.

Re: Post-partum thyroid problems & bfing?
My doc (who I love and trust...surprise surprise
) did some research and said that SYNTHROID is completely safe for use during breastfeeding....but will have to be monitored every few weeks at the beginning and then every 2-3 months until the thyroid stabilizes....yah, my hair is falling out too, weird sleep patterns, hives, weird tingling in my hand/feet, anxiety/depression/panic attacks/obsessive thinking, TIRED ALL THE TIME, mood swings, HUGE weight gain (without diet change), sooooo much more. I'm just hoping I'll finally know what's going on with me!!

Re: Post-partum thyroid problems & bfing?
Okay mamas . . . did you have this too . . . insane sweating. I hardly ever sweat even when working hard and I am sweating (the kind where my hair is wet
) for absolutely no reason. Even in my sleep. I know you do this in the beginning when your body is flushing out all the extra fluids . . . btdt. This is hellish. And I feel like my blood is always racing. UGH!

Re: Post-partum thyroid problems & bfing?
sweating after giving birth is totally normal...ALOT of sweating...its your body getting rid of all of your pregnancy fluids...but old is your LO?
i have postpartum thyroidism (hypo)...and am taking meds for it. are you hypo or hyper? both are still totally fine to nurse with. but if you are hyper, and have to take the radioactive pill..it will be necessary to pump and dump for up to 72 hours...

Re: Post-partum thyroid problems & bfing?
I've had tyroid problems since I was 17 and have been on thyroid meds ever since. I had no problem BFing and my med never changed. Thyroid is safe for bfing very little passes to baby, not taking it is more dangerous/deadly
for me.
