UTI in 2yr old?
my dd is grabbing herself down there and crying owww every time she pee's she does have a little diaper rash, nothing bad at all only a slight one. So how would you tell if its a UTI? She's only been doing this today for the past couple of hours so I don't know if the rash was actually bothering her that much or if its an infection? are there other signs to watch for? she's not potty trained yet. thanks!

Re: UTI in 2yr old?
I think it is DEFINATELY something you would want to take her to the doc for before the weekend. Think of it in most places anything happens on Sat or Sun you're off to the ER
They can use a little bag that tapes into place to catch some urine and test it.

Any fever? It could also be a yeast infection. dd had both recently.

Re: UTI in 2yr old?
My daughter has a grade four kidney reflux, so she is prone to uti's . The first time she had one, she had been running a fever, and the docs said it was just a viral infection. She kept waking up at night crying (I think she muct have been peeing in her sleep) and finally I pushed her tummy and she sceamed. That's how I figured it out. We went to the ER that night. If she keeps it up I would definantly go. With a uti she runs the risk of spreading th infection into her kidneys, which can cause scar tissue and other bad things I imagine. Good luck. It's probably just rash, but better safe than sorry!

Re: UTI in 2yr old?
2 of my sons had UTI's, they both had a fever. The one who could talk said his pee was HOT. Put a good thick coating of diaper ointment on it, if it still hurts assume the pain is inside and take her in. If that seems to solve it its probably the rash. It still could be better to check it out, but you know DD best.
