Trimming prefolds: some questions

Do you know of any WAHMS that offer this service? Has anybody done this themselves? Was it hard to do? How long did you leave the rise? Did you like the results and what kinds of folds could you do in addition to trifold/lay in cover?
Any other advice or any suggestions would be very much apprecated. Thanks!

This is what I used when I decided to trim dd dipes. Now if I could just figure out this dang sewing machine! Also, if you don't want to do it yourself, take them to an alteration shop and see how much they would charge.

Did you like yours? Thanks for the tip about the alteration shop, that is a great idea!

Re: Trimming prefolds: some questions

i did that too. it's REALLY easy, i think unless you don't have a sewing machine, i'd seriously just do it myself (i'm no susie homemaker here either, i admit i don't do many things i should on my own). i haven't gotten to use them yet though b/c they are gigantic on my dd still. it seems like an awesome idea.

also, i trimmed the top off a few of my infant prefolds so we don't have to fold them down in the front for the angelfold and it doesn't decrease absorbancy noticably, but helps with putting it on. that's even easier b/c you just have one seam to zigzag.

I trimmed mine! I used the link above. The rise is up to you. If you think that it will decrease absorbancy, you can zigzag the piece you cut off and use it as a doubler. I just didn't like the bulk of the folded premiums. It wasn't bad on the regulars..so I left them alone. I trimmed them to at the time abover her belly button. Now they are at or slightly below her belly button. I can still trifold for a wrap or snappi them on...no problem. I am so happy that I did it. The fit is just so much better. Good luck! You can always try one, and if you don't like it....don't do the rest.

Hee hee hee! I only actually cut one, but I didn't sew it because I'm crafty-challenged. Stupid lower tension thread. I ended up stuffing that one in a pocket, washing it, and now it's all messed up. For the time being, I'm still just folding down the excess in the front, which I hate. If I can't get the machine to work, I'm going to take them off post and see if the alteration lady can do it. I'm pretty sure she would have a serger. I'm also going to keep the cut off parts to use as extra doublers. I would mail them off, but I use them just about every day! I figure with the alteration lady, I can take them in batches so I don't have to do without!

Thanks for all the advice everybody! I think between me and my mom we should be able to figure it out. Plus she has a serger, so that will make it a ton easier!
