what do you do when your child becomes obcessed with a big piece of plastic made in china.

My son is begging for some diego house... I told him santa likes to bring the wood toys the elves make...

Maybe find a cloth diego and wooden house, lol. I have tried to have mostly cloth and wood. Sometimes we give in. My DS LOVES transformers and hotwheels. So we have those too. KWIM?

how about showing him a wooden dollhouse online and how cool it would be to special order one with the elves similar to the diego one, since it would be safer for him to play with (you and dh/so or yourself) can go buy the MIUSA kit and make it and paint it bright diego-like colors... and buy a wooden family and furniture too! its worth a shot, but it worked with my dd who wanted the little tykes hunk of plastic dollhouse... my dad is making her one for christmas with the help of DH and i!

I think this is a great idea, and will have more lasting memories than buying the store bought version. I've seen some really neat premade wooden tree houses that would be great Diego houses.

If your lo can't get over the whole "it's not really Diego thing" you can buy just a Diego action figure to use in your wooden Diego house.

I just honestly don't buy it. LOL! My DD loves everything from the store, so I either redirect to somthing cloth or I just tell her that we aren't buying toys today.

Then she gets to open "special" gifts on Christmas like the wooden ones and waldorf ones. I just don't want things that are plastic if I can help it. My kids do still have lots of plastic toys, but we aren't buying tons of new ones, cuz I don't like them.

I actually was at BRU recently and my oldest was looking at those infant toys asking to get her sister something. I've gotten so use to saying, "No, it's plastic." She snapped back with, "No, it's not."

I looked and sure enough in the middle of all the plastic baby toys they had a new line of cloth & wooden dolls and rattles for sensory development. We got the little doll with wooden rings for hands and it smelled like lovely lavender (which I can't stand, but they lurve it).

I always shop with my kiddos online, that way they are only seeing what I want them to see (if I can help it, that is). I have already started Christmas shopping with my kids online so that the seed of "what they want" is already planted, sneaky I know!

great ideas... my dh agreed with me tonight he doesn't need moreplastic crap. We do have mic toys but I have purged most and the odd thing he can have... like Thomas trains b/c he is in love with them.
