help!! scratchy diapers!! :(

Is there anything that can be done? (If there is, I know you mamas will know what it is!)

I have gotten used scratchy diapers before, and have just given them away, thinking that was just the way they were....but this time it's Motherease dipes. I had one that I just loooove, and it's so buttery soft, so I bought a bunch of used ones from a mama here. But these are so scratchy, I won't put them on my dd's bum unless there's some way to soften them. I just washed them again and dried them with dryer balls.....still very scratchy. We don't use fabric softener....is that the only way?

Just a suggestion, but I've heard other mommas say that vinegar added to the rinse can help soften dipes. Especially fabrics like hemp tend to get stiff and scratchy, and an occasional addition of vinegar can help. I don't use it often, but when I do, I put it in a Downy ball and toss it in. It dispenses in the rinse cycle, and I usually do a 2nd rinse anyway. I'm not sure that's the best way to do it, maybe other mommas can help?

Could be build up. I bought some Sandys one time that were stiff they had so much soap in them. Try washing them alone with just enough HOT water (add some boiling water, if needed) to cover, no detergent, and see if you get bubbles.
