and yet ANOTHER SWADDLING question...
Okay mamas. Has this issue been threaded to death yet? First off, I have done a search on swaddling and came up with so many, but can't pin-point anything for my specific issues.
DS is a big boy. He's 26 inches long, 19.6 lbs and is 4 mos old. Since he was a newborn, he's always scratched his head while nursing and falling asleep. When he would jerk himself awake, he'd scratch and scratch and keep himself awake. We thought it would be best to swaddle him. We used the Kiddopatamus (sp?) swaddler, then moved him up to the next size (L). He's growing out of it now- escaping, kicking himself free, etc. However, I sorta feel like he needs to be swaddled still because when his arms are free, he just scratches (we think DH passed this trait down- he does this when he's tired). My questions are: 1- is DS too big to swaddle? Too old to swaddle? Should I try weaning him off? 2- is there a blanket I should try or swaddling methods? 3- Are there developmental issues I should worry about with swaddling for a long time?

Re: and yet ANOTHER SWADDLING question...
DD was 10 months old when we stopped swaddling. We used the Miracle Blanket www.miracleblanket.com or check on e-bay. She was a big girl, always in the 90-98%. It didn't slow her developmentally at all. She crawled at 7 months and met all other milestones. My mom would always ask about it, and I'd say we'd stop when she was in kindergarten. If it makes baby happy then mommy is happy.
