Occasional manual pump and feeding sugg.?
Hi,
I am wanting to get a manual pump to have on hand just in case I ever had to go somewhere and leave DS with DH or someone else for longer than an hour or so or if I got held up somewhere and DH was stuck with a crying hungry baby. Right now DS is EBF using the boob straw (aka nipple shield ![]() I am just wondering which pump is reasonable good? The only one they have at the store here is a Medela one. I don't even know the model. I have a pretty heavy let down, but don't want to depend on just squeezing out milk by hand. AND Which method of feeding should I use? Bottle? I just read a thread on some bottle recommendations, so I am open to suggestions. thanks!

Re: Occasional manual pump and feeding sugg.?
I have a Avent Isis pump that I bought at Toys R Us. It was about $45. I have since found them on ebay new in package for around $35 including shipping. It works great for me. I have not heard good things about the medela manuals, but their electrics are great.
For bottles, we use the playtex nursers with the drop in liners. The liners can be expensive, but Ds has only had around 30 bottles in his entire first year, so it was not a big deal to me. We also had to use a nipple shield for a few weeks. I would wait to introduce a bottle until you wean off the nipple shield. The additional nipple may add to the issues you are having. Good luck!

Re: Occasional manual pump and feeding sugg.?
I second the Isis. I did buy mine new from ebay and it even came with the bag and tons of extra parts. I used it daily for a while and it was great. Then I got a medela and I only used the Isis occassionally. I like it so well that I'm saving it for the next baby, though.
