PF dying questions. Help! I'm a dye dummy!!

Ok, I've got 24 unbleached pf's coming to me from Little Lions tommorow and I REALLY want to dye them.

I bought some dylon dyes (bright pink, violet, and lime) and they seem simple enough to use. However, I don't have a pot big pot to put them in. Can I dye them in my washing machine?? If so, how??

Someone help!!!

Re: PF dying questions. Help! I'm a dye dummy!!

did you get the packets from wally world??

what i did was use my stainless steel sink....mixed the dye up real good in a plastic bowl, filled one side of the sink with salt and enough WARM water so that my PFs could float around well. agaited for 15min adn then every so often for another 45min. rinse well and wash!!!

i did the lime one last week and it came out so so well im waiting on my PFs from the co-op to do them red, orange, blue and yellow!

heres a really bad pic i used a cell phone camera. the color came out so bright and hasnt faded at all!

I did the same and they came out really well! If you don't have a stainless steel sink, try a reguar household bucket.

I *think* you can. I think you can agitate them in the wash for the first 15 minutes...just be sure to be nearby 'cause it would suck to have it all drain out prematurely! Maybe set a timer if you know how long your washer agitates for. But after that, I'm sure you could just stop the washer and let it soak. Then rinse, rinse, rinse!

I haven't actually dyed in my machine, but I have rinsed in it. I used a plastic tote that I usually store clothes in to dye my prefolds. I might get brave enough to try it in my washing machine; I'm just chicken that it might stain or leave some dye behind.

Okay, I just tried it last night (dyeing w/ Dylon in my washing machine) and it worked great!
