Re: sushi anyone?
I JUST made some yesterday, but the Nori was really not not good!!! It was chewy and tasted really gross - so I'm on the hunt for some good Nori before I make more. It was really easy - I didnt have one of those bamboo roller things so my rice wasnt super compact but it still worked out okay.... its fun!! Worth a try for sure!

Re: sushi anyone?
I've made some rolls with nori and veggies and smoked salmon but haven't done the raw fish ones at home. I have a bamboo roller. They are pretty inexpensive and make it easy!

Re: sushi anyone?
I used to do it a lot. I haven't in a few months. I did buy bamboo rollers and those sorts of things. I usually make salmon, crab, and tuna rolls. I do some spicy tuna rolls, and some Philly rolls, and then various combinations of fish and veggies.
I just followed some online tutorials. I don't probably do it the "right" way according to tradition. But it tastes good, and my whole family likes sushi a lot. So it works fine!

Re: sushi anyone?
we dont' have any "special" sushi stuff at home, so we get sashimi grade fish and have sashimi with rice bowls. Works out well for us.

Re: sushi anyone?
We make it here all the time...Well, I make something closer to Korean KimPop (very similar.) I use a bamboo place mat from a set of dishes I bought at Target as the rolling mat. Having good Nori does make a big difference. But if you are going for ease, I know that my Wal-mart and other grocery stores carry these little kits that comes with the rice and the Nori...

Re: sushi anyone?
We make sushi at least once a month! It's very easy to do, my rice still comes out right about half the time but it still tastes good. Do you have a local oriental market? I go to ours and I get great tips from the owers and they always help me pick out new things to try!
Alot of book stores (like Boarders) have sushi making kits, with the bamboo mats and spoons combined with a how to book. |
