i think i freaked dh out

i had read a post about co-sleeping on another board and how you shouldnt do it then linked to a couple websites telling stories about parents falling asleep on the couch with their babys and accidently suffocating them between their back and the couch and i was telling dh how sad it was reading those stories but that i thought it was unfair to say that all cosleeping is unsafe well tonight when dh went to bed he told me to scoot Ariana towards my side of the bed more cause now hes afraid hes going to roll on top of her and told me that hes not comfortable sleeping next to her anymore ughh i feel horrible for freaking him out now

Don't worry...we've never coslept (except for me and DS when DH is at work) because DH is a paramedic and he's paranoid about the same thing.

Thankfully dh and I are both VERY light sleepers so that never really scared us. We feel every tiny move, always have. We co slept with my son until he was 3 1/2, our daughter until she was...well, she's still in our bed at 3 1/2 (slowly being weaned) and this baby will be right there with us as well, probably until she's 3 or so. Thankfully my kids are far apart in age so it's only one babe in the bed at a time. If it makes him feel better just snuggle with her on your side for awhile.

Re: i think i freaked dh out

You can always get the rails to put up on the side of your bed (where they cant roll off) and then you sleep in the middle. That's what I did b/c my husbands sleeps hard and did roll on her one time (luckily I was awake). So from that day forward I slept in the middle and put her on my side. Never had a problem after that. Or when I did put her in the middle I cradled her in my arms.

Re: i think i freaked dh out

We don't cosleep now, more because of ds than anything, but dh was the same way, he was scared one of us (not having alot of sleep, gettingup though the night with a new baby) would roll over on him, so we were not going to cosleep, than when ds came early he spent time in the NICU and when we brought him home it was the ONLY way we could get him to sleep, so for the first 3 months tops he was in our bed than he (ds) hated sleeping with us, so we moved him into his basinett and he slept ALL night long than at 5 months we bought a house, got him a crib and he has been sleeping in it by himself in his own room since Oct hes now a year old

Re: i think i freaked dh out

I've always been amazed at how we just seem to "know" where Isabel is in bed with us and never roll on top of her. In fact, I don't think either of us moves without coming partly awake, doing an Isabel check and the shifting into whatever real estate she's left us on the king-sized (or Isabel-sized, if you ask her) bed

Re: i think i freaked dh out

My DH has rolled over almost ontop of her. It was a good thing I was awake and was able to push him over and he still didn't wake up. He knows that I bring her into bed if she wakes up either super early or in the middle of the night. We don't co-sleep, but every morning we all cuddle together-mostly just me and the kids though.
