DH is looking into a job in Hillsboro, and I was wondering if any of you might have suggestions of affordable and safe areas to live? If we go, we'll be doing an apartment to start out. I've been looking online at reviews of complexes, but I never know how much to believe. I'm pretty sure the job is just east of the airport if that helps at all (We'd like to be close so he can bike to work in good weather). If you want to tell me anything else about the area, I'd be happy to hear it.

I've never even been to Oregon, but it sounds like a nice place to live, so I'm getting excited!

I know he doesn't have the job yet, but he's so dang excited I want to do what I can to be supportive, and my job is always looking into this kind of stuff.

i don't live in hillsboro myself, but overall it's a very safe area although i'm sure some apt complexes are nicer than others.

i do know a few mamas who live out there. i organize a group called portland green parenting if you do decide to move up here. also, meetup.com has a ton of moms' groups in portland, including a playgroup in hillsboro, i believe.

portland is a GREAT place to live-- i think you would like it! good luck with your search.

I grew up by the airport in Hillsboro! I would look into the Orenco/ Streets of Tansabourne area. It is pretty new, with some really nice apts and condos. Or there are some nice ones up by 185th. Keep in mind Hillsboro also has Tri Met buses and a Max line, if you are wanting to not drive as much.

That's so cool that you grew up there! I think most of the apartments we are starting to look at are in the Orenco/Streets of Tansabourne area. Its good to hear that its a good place to look.

I was going to say Orenco/Tannasbornne area too. My babysitter lives in an apartment in Tannabornne and it is really nice. 1700sq ft! Almost as big as my house!
