Do you leave stick butter out?

We have returned to using only real butter. I just hate trying to spread it when it is refrigerated! I grew up with a stick of butter always sitting out - what do you do?

We either put it out the morning I'll need to use it, or I buy a tub of whipped real butter. Because it's whipped it's stays a bit softer and more spreadable

Maybe you could try a butter bell. We don't use enough butter for me to feel comfortable leaving it out but if I were to I'd probably use one of them.

But I voted keep it in the fridge, because we mix it with oil to make it spreadable and keep it in a dish in the fridge.

I like to leave it out...that's what my grandmother always did, but my husband thinks that's icky. I don't think it spoils, but I may be wrong.

What did people do before there were refrigerators?

I don't think it spoils but I always put it in the fridge, IDK why either. I guess the look and feel of warm butter is icky to me...its all gewy and shiney and warm...kind of just reminds me of eating fat and is a turn off...I guess I just answered my question as to why i keep in the frige :P

I always refrigerate it. However, my father and his mother always leave it out (then I put it back in the fridge when I go to my parents' house ).

It's a lot easier to spread when left out, but I don't think it stays fresh as long.

Fridge for us. Only when I know we're gonna use it for sandwiches or something I put it out about 1/2 hr b4 we eat.

I was leaving it out for awhile, that's why my family did growing up. But now I've been using butter for cooking and spreadable (60% canola-oil) butter and its spreadable out of the fridge. I need to find a new butter dish to use, I like leaving it out if its contained.
