Used Ameda Purely yours pump...is this ok?
Sooo I met a girl off freecycle recently that gave me some maternity clothes, she has several kids and is pretty much done with having babies so she said she'd keep me in mind if she had more baby stuff to give away, well she ended up contacting me about a breast pump and baby boy clothes so I told her I'd go get them
Well I'm just a little nervous about using the pump. I know NOTHING about pumps and just want to know if it is safe? I understand I need to buy new parts, but is the pump itself safe? Also, if it is safe, what parts exactly do I need to order new? Can anyone help me with this?

Re: Used Ameda Purely yours pump...is this ok?
This pump has an open system, which means that it is *possible* that bacteria *could* be spread. Hospital grade pumps have closed systems, so bacteria cannot be spread.
The open system pumps are manufactured with the idea that it will be used by one mama. However, the decision to use a used pump is completely yours. There are mamas on both sides of this issue. My sister and I shared a pump w/o any problems. Personally, I wouldn't share a pump with someone I didn't know well. HTH!

Ok, I'm confused now, I just found this link about the pump...
http://www.breastpumpsdirect.com/Ame...ll_p/17077.htm it says it is a closed system? The one she gave me looks just like this one, bag and all...anyone?

Re: Used Ameda Purely yours pump...is this ok?
I have this pump and I have the hospital grade ameda one that I'm renting and they use the same parts therefore I would think that the purely yours is a closed system. If you really wanted you could just buy the pump kit and use the pump.

Re: Used Ameda Purely yours pump...is this ok?
My understanding is that it is a closed system and would be fine to use with new tubing, flanges, etc.

Re: Used Ameda Purely yours pump...is this ok?
I have this pump and I bought it for the very reason that it is a closed loop system. Meaning multiple people can use it. It is perfectly safe to use a used pump all you have to do is buy a new hygiene kit. The milk cannot get into the tubes so there is no risk of contamination.

Re: Used Ameda Purely yours pump...is this ok?
Ameda Purely Yours is a CLOSED system. I actually love this pump better than a Medela
and I've both borrowed and bought used. Both times I went ahead and purchased a new Hygenikit (they have BPA free ones). I totally recommend it! It saved me TONS!

It's a closed system, so as long as you buy new parts, it should be ok to use.
