Vacation Ideas for 2 LO's

Hey mamas! DH gets 2 separate weeks of vacation this year (one in May, one in July). With a 2yo and 6mo, I wasn't even sure we could go anywhere, but I want to do something fun (especially for my son).

Any ideas, or what have you done in the past? We thought maybe staying overnight at an indoor waterpark in May on a weeknight before all the kids get out of school for the summer (we live in Chicago, and there's one 45 minutes away), my son could play in the baby area with us. Nothing fancy or expensive.

Any help would be appreciated! :-)

If you can afford it, I would recommend Destin, FL. There's the beach, of course, but also the Gulfarium. And about an hour or so from Destin is the Naval Air Museum with lots of cool planes that your son may be interested in. There are other family friendly things to do there as well -- bowling, putt-putt, etc.

Are you campers? Head to the lakes and enjoy some cheap nature. Maybe a little chilly in May, but only at night.
Nothing better for kids than communing with bugs and dirt. Great on your wallet too.
Chicago has a zoo if I remember right.. maybe you could do a "stay-cation" and plan an excursion to the zoo.

Definitely do Key Lime Cove up in Gurnee, my 4 year old LOVES it there and they have so much other things for the kids to do other than the waterpark. We went over X-mas and we're going to go again in April when he has spring break.
