Measuring smaller each week? *ANOTHER Update*
I was measuring about a week bigger each week up until about the 35th week... then I was measuring right on. Well, at 37 weeks I measured 36, then at my 38th week I measured 35, he said that he was concerned about the level of fluid, and told me to set up an appointment for an ultrasound to check on it. The only thing is he didn't come tell the guy making the appointment that it was urgent, (this was last thursday) so he was going to get me in on this coming Thursday, I finally got an appt. for Wednesday, but every single day I worry that the baby might not be doing alright. I'm tempted to call them and see if they will get me in sooner. Has anyone had this happen, where their measurements were going backwards??? The baby is low, but I shouldn't be measuring smaller and smaller, it's scaring me.... and on top of that everyone is saying it looks like I need a couple more months because of how small I am. Help! I need to hear good things
I went in for my ultrasound, and they measured the fluid. They said that for 39 weeks the danger zone is under 6.4 and I can have anywhere up to 24.... I have 6.7. So if I am leaking fluid I could get lower than I am supposed to. I go to the Dr. tomorrow and he will probably schedule induction for Friday morning. Dr. Called, wants me to go to the hospital right now, doing a stress test and probable induction due to low fluids. Wish me luck!!!! Thanks in advance

Re: Measuring smaller each week?
I just posted about this a couple days ago and my OB said that it's because she is dropping further down the birth canal. Therefore, making my belly measure and looks smaller. He did not seem concerned AT ALL!!!
As for you..I would call and see if they can get you in earlier ONLY because you are stressing over it!!

Re: Measuring smaller each week?
Oh I remember your post, in fact I commented on it because my Dr. wasn't concerned with levels the week before because I was measuring 36 weeks (at 37), and his head was blocking my cervix...
It was this last appt. he was worried since it moved backward another week. My mom also said that stressing over it can make it worse, I might have to call tomorrow and see if I can get in just to put my mind at ease. Thanks

Re: Measuring smaller each week?
I was induced for low amniotic fluid with my son but I measured small most of the pregnancy but it got very bad towards the end. By 36w I was measuring 28w. I was induced at 36w.
Are you having decreased movements? I'd just watch for that and maybe call about getting in sooner. They treated my low fluid like something very urgent so tell them your concerns. Otherwise...I am measuring smaller myself now, not as much off as you though. My midwife checked and baby has dropped and is engaged in my pelvis, I'm -1 right now, so that explains my smaller measurements. |

Re: Measuring smaller each week?
I'd probably be a little concerned but those measurements have atleast a +/- of 2 anyhow and depending on if you were contracting at all, position of the baby, precision of the doctor's ability to measure - could all affect the numbers - I agree that decreases movement could be a sign of stress - also did the doctor feel that the heartbeat was different? Or was he just concerned about the size?
on your outward size i wouldnt worry much - I carry smaller than most people - i actually just went to a prenatal class thingy - no one else was due before the end of August - even a sept and oct baby - mostly first time moms (i was smaller when i delivered ds1 at 38 weeks than i was this pregnancy at 32-33 weeks outwardly) Only one mom due in Sept and the one due in October were smaller than me - I honestly thought everyone in the class from looking was going to be due within the next month - just comparing bellies people tell me how lucky I am - no way - all that baby is still in there - and its squishing everything awful instead of just stretching outward p.s. When i went to hospital with ds1 (38 weeks) the OB on call who was supposed to check my dilation per my doc as i'd been in labor for about 6 hrs wanted to know in what COUNTRY i was planning on having the baby - I was super confused at a first and then understood that she was asking me really whether I was planning on flying back to the US to have the baby or staying there - I suggested i was planning on having the baby preferably there - that night if at all possible - she told me she thought i was 6 maybe 7 months along

Re: Measuring smaller each week?
With my first THREE babies, I measured big at the beginning, right on in the middle and small at the end. It's just my M.O. Don't worry! Drink lots of water. You're probably ok. I'm pregnant with #4 and following the same pattern. Everybody is different. Docs forget to tell us that and lump everyone into the same mold. They had me do another ultrasound with baby #3 (i had to pay for it) and everything was just fine. Sometimes I think they rush to panic (or scare us) without looking at our history.
