Healthy veggie dip?

My kid eat cooked veggies okay but only eat raw carrots or spinach. They love salad dressing as dip but it's just not really healthy. I'm hoping I can get them to eat different raw veggies if I find another kind of healthy dip for them to use. Any ideas?

What about making spinach dip, since they like spinach already. Use LF or FF sour cream if you want to lower the calories. Or maybe make some kind of cheese sauce.

DS loves hummus. He eats it with veggies or pretzels (he esp loves the pumpernickel and onion pretzels). It's a meal in itself - so healthy and he adores it.

Re: Healthy veggie dip?

I have a recipe for a healthier veggie dip.

Combine all of the ingredients in a blender or food processor until smooth.
2/3 c. of cottage cheese
4 Tbls. of soy mayonnaise or low fat mayonnaise
1 Tbls. milk
1 TBls. lemon juice
1 Tbls. onion flakes
1/2 tsp. garlic powder (the recipe calls for 1tsp of garlic salt, but I think that it is way too salty this way)
1 tsp. dried dill weed

Thanks for the great ideas. Hummus didn't go over big last time but that was quite awhile ago so I think I'll try it again. I love it anyway!

Hummus came to my mind at first aswell.
Otherwise I'd try blending up cottage cheese and playing around a bit. Mixing Salsa w/CC tastes yummy!

It looks like everyone thought the same way I did! I was going to suggest hummus! You can buy awesome organic flavored hummus here. Or, you can totally make your own. It's so easy.

I find that my boys like it better when it has different flavors in it. So far, they like black olive and roasted red pepper hummus. If you can't find that flavor, you can buy plain hummus and throw it in the food processor with other flavors.

I could live off hummus alone. Seriously.

Re: Healthy veggie dip?

Try making your own hummus. Some of the store brands can taste pretty funky. Kids seem to love the garlic in the hummus, especially little ones. Have them make it with you, they will want to eat what they make. Let them taste it too as they are making it. Ask them if it needs more salt, or more garlic etc..

Have fun!
Peace,
Cindy
