Domperidone

I have started taking Domperidone to get my milk supply back. I lost it at about 3 months Postpartum due to hypothyroidism, which has since been corrected.

I am taking 20 mg, 3x/day. I just started it last night.

For any ladies who have used Domperidone (I tried 1 liter of Mothers Milk tea and 12 fenugreek pills and it didnt work), how long did it take for your milk to come back, and did you get back to your full supply?

Currently, I get an ounce and a half pumping during the day, half an ounce pumping at night, and about 2 ounces nursing in the morning. I have been consistantly trying to nurse and pumping 3-4 times daily since my baby was 6 weeks, even with the lack of supply.

Re: Domperidone

I stopped bfing my son at a little after 2 weeks due to some severe post partum issues, LOL. That and I just couldn't take the pain of nursing anymore. I took fenugreek and all that good stuff, but never tried the tea because I didn't want to order online back then. Anyway... after what seemed like forever I tried the Domperidone. I think at the most after I started taking it I got an ounce (both breasts together). BUT I was completely dried up, sounds like you're doing just fine. There's the possibility that you MAY get a full supply back. I don't know that they guarantee it, and I wouldn't either. It depends mostly on how well your body reacts to the medication, etc. I stopped after a few weeks of pumping for what seemed like forever. I couldn't take it anymore, LOL, but you are far ahead of what I was making in the first place! Good luck with it! It was the only thing that started my supply back up in the first place, so you may have GREAT results on it. Oh, as for how long it took for my milk to come back it was maybe between 1-2 weeks to notice much of a change. I noticed little changes within the first few days, but nothing spectacular until a little later. BTW, it did make me gain over 10 lbs. though, LOL, if you're concerned about that. I wasn't, though - milk seems so much more important than weight!

Re: Domperidone

I used domp to induce lactation for my adoptive dd. Within 2 days, I had a streams and within 2 weeks I had enough to bf her without use of lact-aid. So, my story is different than yours but to show that I use domp and was able to soley bf within 2 weeks. I never pumped.

Good luck

How are you getting a box sent by a friend...you have to have a prescription for it? Like any drug, there are side effects. Domperidone is actually used to treat stomach problems, increased lactation is just a side effect. You really need to discuss it with your doctor before using it (or any drug) because your own medical history may affect how your body responds. In the US, the FDA has issued a warning against Domperidone and it is illegal for pharmacies to dispense it. The warning is controversial for several reasons, but it is something to consider and discuss with your physician. There are other options for increasing your milk supply or "relactation" as well.

Here's some info about Domperidone (good and bad):
