Fried Rice?

Okay, I want to try my hand at making a stir fry, and want to do fried rice with it. We use brown rice in our house... how can we make fried rice? I don't like many veggies, and hate onions, so anything that is just really simple would be great!

Re: Fried Rice?

Cook a batch of rice and refrigerate it. Scramble an egg in a bit of butter and add in some veggies (we usually use frozen stir-fry mix). Chuck in your cold rice, and add more butter. Soy sauce to taste and you're done.

I go with this, with a little variation depending on what's around the kitchen. My mom put bacon into it and served it for breakfast sometimes. To keep the rice from getting sticky and clumpy, refrigerating it does the trick. ^^

Basically, fried rice is:

scrambled egg
cooked rice
soy sauce + other seasonings.
veggies + meat

"Daddy Diapers"? What are those? If he can't figure it out, we're using the wrong ones.

Re: Fried Rice?

The key to cooking fried rice is the amount of water used. When I cook fried rice, I used minute rice, but use half the amount of water. (2 cups water to 4 cups rice) Put soy sauce in the water while you cook the rice.

Use a skillet to cook pork/shrimp/chicken. I also use green onions, yellow onion, bean sprouts, and scrambled egg in my fried rice. I always let the yellow onions green onions and bean sprouts cook with the meat of the meal, because I hate them raw! I don't like the other veggies in it.

Then, toss everything in the wok, mix, heat, and serve.

Thank you for this! I have a great fried rice recipe but it's so hard to "stir" because the rice seems so gloppy. I didn't know I could make it with less water.
