Discrimination...

Anybody ever been asked to leave or cover up because somebody finds nursing offensive?

I was in a situation yesterday that gave me a run for my $. Since I knew I was protected by law and I am rather outspoken, I was able to deal with it. Yet I'm still feeling about it.

Wanna share stories to make this Mama feel not so alone?

Melissa

I have had one experience in Chillis when I was feeding my DD & the man that the table next to us said "OH GREAT! NOW MY DINNER IS RUINED!" & "THATS WHAT BATHROOMS ARE FOR" but I have never been told to leave or stop nursing + poor person who ever tried to say that ....... they'll get a show & a black eye (not really )

What happened??

That's insane! I would've asked him if he wanted milk with his burger.

I feel so sad for the ignorance in our society.

Re: Discrimination...

Brava to all you mamas who stand up for yourselves!!!!

NIP is hard for us - DS likes to have the tasting menu for his meals - appetizer, stop to socialize, salad, look around, palate cleansing sorbet. . .all the while expecting mama's boob to just hang around.

When we need to nurse though, we will. Nobody's ever confronted us, but usually DH is with me and we just carry on conversation and ignore everyone else. We're ready for any confrontation though - we know our legal rights. And forget our legal rights for a moment - when the boy needs to eat, he needs to eat!

Or told him he could eat HIS dinner in the restroom, your DC prefers to eat at the table

Re: Discrimination...

I just posted on my blog today about an incident that happened to me at WalMart. I've nursed four kids (with LOTS of NIP!) and never had any problems until we left California. I've been offered more comfortable or private places to do so on occasion, in a very polite manner.. which I politely decline and have always been left alone. But have never been 'asked to move' before as I was a couple weeks ago.
Also, if you scroll down a bit, I also have a post about boobs in public.
