Re: Any NW FL-South AL Moms?
The Bellview area is pretty nice, not in town, really, but danged close to the middle of P'cola. I've lived there, and they have a great school system. I'm back over in Mobile now, though.

Re: Any NW FL-South AL Moms?
Hi! My BIL is stationed in Ft Walton Beach and we are considering moving near there to be closer to my sister, nephew, and nieces. Right now we are in Tampa but don't have much family so are looking to either go near my sister or up to NY. How is this area compared to Tampa? Is there a lot of hurricanes? My BIL said that the thunderstorms are terrible. Any info will help with our decision. Thanks!

Re: Any NW FL-South AL Moms?
We will be moving to Fort Walton Beach / Eglin AFB area within the next few months! We would like to get a house off post, and trying to decide the best place to live. If anyone has some advice, that would be awesome!

Re: Any NW FL-South AL Moms?
I grew up in Fort Walton. I'd say to look around the Racetrack Road/Mooney Road areas. I think the area's called Kenwood. Also, as per it's name, Niceville is a nice, friendly area, if you're stationed at Eglin. PM me if you have any questions about the area.

Re: Any NW FL-South AL Moms?
I'm in Pensacola too and am SO lost by this site!! I want to try cloth diapers, I have had three boys and never used a cloth diaper before! (I also don't know my way around Pensacola very well either even though we've been here for five years now.)

Re: Any NW FL-South AL Moms?
Enterprise, AL here
I have a 5 year old daughter and a 5 month old son. I didn't CD my daughter. By the time I was turned on to the idea she was already 1 and I didn't know when I would have another to make it worth buying everything then. Now that I have my baby boy I am ready to try it out!

Re: Any NW FL-South AL Moms?
Hi! I'm a Marine wife living in Milton. I have an 8 year old DD and an 18 month old DD as well. I really like it here, lots of nice people. I just don't know anyone else that uses cloth. My friends respect what I do...but they think I'm a little strange for wanting the extra work. Nevertheless, I love my cloth!

Re: Any NW FL-South AL Moms?
Quote:
Proudmommy jen -- If you are coming to be with the 7th special forces group, the area where they are building for the 7th SFG is north of where the main base of Eglin is. The closest town to where the 7th SFG is is Crestview. Crestview is up at the north end of the county. There is a wal mart and two other grocery stores. And about 100 churches for a population of 20,000. It's a big enough town, but if you want to be where the beaches and tourist attractions are, that is at the south end of the county. So . . your choices are . . . live at the south end of the county, and have a 30 minute daily drive to work each way, but be close to the beaches and other "fun" stuff. Or live at the north end of the county and have a 10 minute drive to work each day, but live in a kind of small town with not a lot of "fun" stuff to do. The Eglin reservation is huge and takes up the whole middle part of the county. The next closest town to the 7th SFG complex is Niceville. Niceville is nice, but rent /housing prices are higher than Fort Walton or Crestview. Niceville is also pretty close to the main base, so if you are thinking you will be going to the base hospital and /or commissary , etc. a lot, that would be a good central location to commute to work / go on the main base/ get to the beaches. Another "bonus" about living in Crestview is that it is 30 miles inland. So, when hurricanes come, unless it is a really really nasty one heading towards us, you don't have to evacuate. In fact, if you live in Crestivew, all your military friends who live at the south end of the county will be coming to your house to wait out the hurricane.
