Do I need to go fabric shopping?
Okay ladies, do I need to go fabric shopping? I am going over to a friend of a friend's house Thursday night to learn how to make a pillowcase dress for my 2 year old daughter.
We are a little last minute planning this, and this is the email I got about what to bring: For a pillowcase dress…two yards of fabric should do just fine. You can do one yard each of coordinating fabrics, as one of the yards will be for the outside of the dress and one will be inside. I usually do some fun print on the outside, and just buy cheap broadcloth in a coordinating color for the inside. Those of you with toddlers, one yard will be MORE than enough…but I like to add a ruffle one the bottom, and we’ll use the extra fabric for that. Keep that in mind when thinking about fabric—you may want to coordinate two fun prints, one for the dress, one for the ruffle. Ruffle fabric can also be your liner. I usually do a lot of quilting so I have a bunch of 100% cotton prints laying around. Can I use that for a dress or should I really go buy some garment fabric instead?

Well the answer to that question is always YES
but the cotton prints you use for quilting will also work fine for a dress. If you go to Joann's they have some super yummy cupcake prints in one of the cotton fabric sections!

Re: Do I need to go fabric shopping?
Well... I don't have as many big pieces of cotton as I thought I did. And I was thinking about it and wouldn't a lined eyelet dress be sooooo cute? And... you are totally right that the answer to "do I need to go fabric shopping?" is always "yes."
