What to get a 10 year old boy for his birthday?

The title says it all

My friend said he's into nerf guns, but I am not sure about getting him that since we are not big on guns. She also said he's into bakugan, but I've never even looked at those so I wouldn't even know where to begin. We prefer toys that don't use batteries and encourage imagination, so I would prefer to get him something along those lines.

I have a nephew about that age and he is into legos, pokemon cards, and nerf stuff. I like to give books. They have those books where you get to the end of the page (or couple of pages) and have to decide what to do (it tells you what page to turn to based on your decision). Those are fun for that age. Joke books are fun for that age too.

Thanks! I loved those books when I was that age. Great idea.
