I personally think that pretty much everything is ok in moderation (obviously there are a few exceptions). IMO, the amount of meat that would be on a salad won't hurt you

theres nothing wrong with deli meat. it doesnt matter if the meat is cold, it just matters that its cooked through. i ate/eat deli meat all the time with both of my pregnancys! i probably ate it daily with my son because i craved pastrami sandwiches and i made them for lunch all the time.

Re: craving a chef salad

It isn't the amount of deli meat you eat, it is how fresh the meat is. Pre-packaged deli meat that has been sitting on a shelf is more likely to contain listeria, which is a bacteria that can cause an infection in the mother/baby. My midwife said that fresh cut deli meat is safest, because that is the least likely to have that bacteria on it. The longer it sits around, the more likely the bacteria is to grow. Of course to avoid it all together just zap it in the micro until it is hot, and then cool it down and put it on your salad. Or, if it is coming from a place where you know they cut it fresh daily or whatever, I'd say you're probably fine

Yup, as others have said, it's perfectly fine fresh in moderation. The only other thing to be mindful of with deli meat is the nitrates and salt factor. But when you're eating them in a salad and not on a cheese-filled, bacon laced hoagie - I think you're fine! lol

This, but also go to a deli where you know that they keep their equipment very clean. I had no problems eating deli meat while pregnant knowing that I was at a clean, reliable, high quality deli. (and I'm a major pg worrier).
