Re: Food ideas while camping

We typically do for a weekend trip:

dinner: hot dogs or steaks or BBQ chicken

breakfast: coffee, pancakes and eggs

Lunch: sandwhichs, chips, fruit

dinner: burgers and beans and smores!

breakfast: coffee, bacon and eggs

lunch: cold sandwhichs again with chips/fruit/etc

Re: Food ideas while camping

Someone mentioned taking bottled water. I just wanted to mention that we take water with us, but we don't do individual bottles. We bring 3 gallon containers and everyone gets their own sigg type bottle. Much less waste that way.

Also, not for food, but for clean up - bring 2 basins and set up a little area away from everything. Put clean water in them - soap in 1 and put all utensils, plates, etc. in to soak and wash. Most campgrounds have water available to rotate out the dirty dishwater. Using real silverware and plates, etc. saves SO much waste.

When we started camping, we used loads of paper products and individual water bottles, but we quickly aimed at lowering our footprint when camping.

Banana boats are a fun dessert
http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Banana-Boats/Detail.aspx
Walking tacos are always a hit with my girl guides - but we use doritos instead of fritos
we freeze water in jugs so you have the ice but don't have the water when the ice melts with to deal with.
freeze meats before packing - or precook meat (for spaghetti or chili or tacos) to be safer than raw ground meat
I often freeze milk if it is in bags - again good ice substitute
