Gall stones??

Ok I have heard that women are at higher risk for gall stones during pregnancy....but out midwife came in yesterday and told us that our baby has gall stones. We are getting another ultrasound on Friday to measure growth, but they will also be looking at this again. I guess I'm just wondering if anybody else has had this happen.

Re: Gall stones??

I finally found some information on it and only 1.15% of babies get them.

Re: Gall stones??

Well, nothing can be done till the baby is born - then it really depends on the condition of the baby. If the baby is in a lot of distress and the stools aren't what they should be then they will do a U/S shortly after birth to see if there is blockage. Sometimes the gall stones just pass naturally, but if they are too big to pasa and are blocking the bile duct then they can try to shrink them and then if that doesn't work they can possibly do laproscopic surgery. Positive side to this is that we found out now......meaning they will know what to look for if baby is not digesting right instead of going to a number of tests to figure out what is wrong.
