Re: To Paci or not to Paci? Also, Favorite Pacifier?

We used a paci with both my boys. Neither was very interested in it though and we had no trouble taking it from them. I think I wanted them to use it more then they wanted it. LOL! Oh and we used the MAM ones from WalMart. I am pretty sure that was the name.

I think they're fine--dd loved(still does!) her Gerber Nuk originals(the non silicone nipple ones.
She still uses it for bedtime.

We tried several when she was a baby--but Gerber Nuk's won out.

Our oldest loved the MAM ones.

I found it did not interfere w/ bf or didn't for us anyway.

to all you saying older kids with a paci is gross:

my 17 month old is using a paci and will until HE chooses not to. I've talked to his dr and she said that its completely fine for him to still use it. So i will not feel guilty for him still having it.

off my now

Thank you--I feel the same way about this.To each their own I guess.
Dd uses her's at bedtime and when upset(just at home). She just turned 5 yrs old.I'm sometimes concerned about it but realize she will give it up when she's ready and wont go to college w/ a paci in her mouth!

ATM a paci is giving the girls a much-needed break! Thank you, Pacifer, for soothing my child and me

Loving Soothie and Gumdrop pacis with my noob.

eta: I brought a 2-pack of the green Soothie pacifers to the hospital with me and they really saved me a lot of early-on discomfort!!

Re: To Paci or not to Paci? Also, Favorite Pacifier?

I've never had to deal with a pacifier (tho not for lack of trying!) but I've had lots of friends who used them and their kids have had them to varying ages. It never bothered me. I put it in the same realm as kids that nurse into toddlerhood/preschool years. If it works for the kid and it works for the family, who cares? I'm not a dentist, but from what I can understand, they all have different opinions on it, too.

Same with bottles. My kids never took bottles, but I watched some of my friends who were horrified that their kids still took a bottle at 2 or whatever. I never understood why it was a big deal to take it away. They will grow out of it eventually one way or another, and if there's an issue, cross that bridge when it comes to pass.

The only problem I have with pacifiers is that my kids are now fascinated by them. NOW! LOL When we're with a kid that uses one, they are constantly picking them up and either trying to make the kid put it in their mouth, or they want to give it a try themselves. I have to ask the parent to hide any spares. So annoying! For six months I tried every pacifier on the market and DD wouldn't take one! Gah!

Re: To Paci or not to Paci? Also, Favorite Pacifier?

I never introduced one to my daughter, but she also never showed a big sucking desire and was a pretty mellow baby. If I thought it would comfort the second I'm not completely opposed. I suppose I've just never thought of them as a baby necessity and I wouldn't TRY to give my child a pacifier simply because I don't want to worry about one more weaning issue later on.
