Very, VERY odd smell...help!
Ok, so the past few days when I've taken wet diapers off of DD, they smell like....dare I say it....cigarette smoke. We don't smoke. We don't know anyone who does, and we don't bring her to places where smoking is allowed. So what's the deal? This is insane! Is it her pee? Or is it the dipes themselves? Currently I do a cold rinse, then a hot wash w/ 1/2 cup baking soda & 2 drops TTO, then a cold rinse then everything goes in the dryer (that can be dried in there). Insight anyone? The smell is making me

Re: Very, VERY odd smell...help!
Is it a used diaper? I've never had pee smoke before so I wouldn't think it was from your little one. Perhaps if it is used there maybe some smoke residue left. What type of diaper is it? If they don't have snaps or velcro you can boil them.

Re: Very, VERY odd smell...help!
Some of them are used, but I've used them for a month with no problem. The smell is a recent one.
All but 3 of my diapers have snaps or velcro.

Re: Very, VERY odd smell...help!
Years ago I remember some people having the same problem...I can't remember what board, it may have been an email group. Have you ever used a regular detergent? The baking soda & TTO is a new one for me. That sounds really hard to fully rinse from diapers (but again, I'm not familiar with that method). Have you tried stripping the dipes? Has your dd been drinking enough water? I see her age, it's hard to get water into my newly 2 yo dd, she drinks a lot of milk and juice and I'll tell ya some of the juices smell funny on the other end, lol.
I hope you figure it out, sounds frustrating! I'm out of ideas.

Re: Very, VERY odd smell...help!
Someone on another CD board suggested it b/c I was having to rinse a minimum of 6-7 times to get any suds out (even with just a tsp of soap). It was getting ridiculous and I was getting frustrated. I'm washing right now with some soap...I'll just deal with the rinsing. We'll see if this helps. *crosses fingers*

Re: Very, VERY odd smell...help!
yeah, haven't encountered that either. i have heard of other people who don't use soap at all - just hot water....i like super washing soda. i'm assuming you must have like super-soft water.
good luck getting rid of it! |
