Re: Pediatrician criticized me for nursing *their response letter*

I did not read through all the pages, but OH MY GOODNESS!

I am still nursing my 2.5 year old DD (but we are weaning, I'm just not making much if any anymore). My dr has never said a word about it, nor has anyone else (WIC, family, etc). If I had that conversation with my dr, I would be finding a new one. I'm so sorry you had to go through that! You are doing a WONDERFUL thing by extended nursing. I look back and don't think I could have stopped at 1 year old. It is NATURAL to nurse until a child is older than 1.

See this article also - it is one of my favorites on the subject

Are you in the city btw? I am in the far south burbs.

Wow. What an idiot. I'm glad you decided to go to a new pediatrician... I hope that you showed her that she was completely wrong.

God bless

Do we have the same Ped? No, I know we don't, but mine was on her high horse about not breastfeeding after a year, adding flouride because we are on a well, Nursery water (yeah, thanks, but no thanks!!), flipping my DS to FF at 9 MONTHS (no, I'm not kidding! She told us, he's close enough, you can flip him if you want to), she also vax'ed him with a shot I had refused and then told me that he had gotten the entire series, changing his shot records, even though he hadn't had any prior, oh and she called HIM a girl immediately after examining his intact boy parts.

Yeah, needless to say, we now have a new doctor.

Fight the good fight, mama...do what feels right and works for you and your LO.

Re: Pediatrician criticized me for nursing *their response letter*

holy old thread batman! but yes, i'm still outraged at her idiocy. as an interesting aside, after i reported her and whatnot, i had to work with her for a month during my internship for my master's. AWKWARD!

and i did switch to another ped in the practice and we were very happy with him. i have since moved to chicago and found the.most.amazing pediatrician. when asked how long i nursed my oldest, i responded "three years, two months" and he said that my son was a very lucky little boy, and will reap the benefits of my dedication for his entire life. i got tears in my eyes and said, "i always try for that" and he said, "you don't just try, you succeed". THAT'S my kind of pediatrician!

me too! in light of my previous experience, there are just no words to say how much i love our current pediatrician. i will shout it from the rooftops, dr. minkus is THE BEST!

i won't mention the name of the "other" pediatrician, but if you're pedi shopping in the champaign/urbana area, PM me.

that is horrible. I hate when they say that cows milk is somehow better than your breastmilk - ridiculous!

Perhaps it's because I'm really tired and ran a little bit ago, but that somehow strikes me as funny. I don't actually think it should, but well...there it is. I think it's pondering the look on her face when she had to see you. At some point after being reported, she had to realize how ignorant she was....had to, right?
