Privacy question

I have a lot of family out of state that I like to keep updated on how things are going with my boys (especially yds since he's had some health issues). I set up a blog on blogger.com but in order to keep it only viewable by invited people anyone invited has to have a google account. That's not turning out to be a very popular thing among those I invited. Do you think it would be safe to allow the blog to be public? I mean, is it okay to let just anyone see pics of my boys and read the updates? How do you handle the whole privace issue?

I keep my family blog 'private' and yes, that prevents several people from taking the time to login, but I'm too paranoid to put their info out there. I set it up so my Mom is subscribed and it goes directly to her email, so she has a google ID, but she doesn't have to use it. That works pretty well for us.
