Can honey go bad?

I boought some honey from a farmer down the road and it is really dark deep golden/red in color and seems to have an odd taste, it is not crystalized to the sides of the jar, but it tastes strange, almost chemically, so can honey go bad?

NOPE True Pure honey can NOT go bad... However if other items get inside the honey they can go bad (bread crumbs, Peanutbutter, things of that nature) they can go rancid but the Honey will last Virtually Forever... I would ask your farmer what his bees Pollinate with? it could be the flower your not fond of.

I've always heard that when they opened the Pyramids in Egypt they found perfectly edible honey. Is it a different kind of honey than you're used to (like Clover vs. orange blossom?).

Interesting. I always thought honey could go bad and that was why you shouldn't feed it to young children because of botulism.

Kocho NOPE the Reason your not supposed to is due to the Allergy factor. Same as Nuts strawberries and whatnot. and the fact that a lot of people Use RAW honey which has not been Heat treated to kill anything that might have been lingering (not that it will make ya sick just tastes a little diff)

yeah honey never goes bad, but local raw honey might taste different than the stuff you buy at the supermarket. we buy from a local guy and I like that it's local but I'm not as big on the taste.

But like PP said, it was probably just the flower that you weren't liking--I once bought some very expensive New Zealand honey and honestly I threw it out after tasting a teaspoon of it--it tasted horrible!

Good to know. Thanks. For some reason I always worried about honey more then the rest. I think because my MIL kept trying to give it to my kids.

I always thought the honey thing was the botulism as well.... Because it can carry small amounts of the botulitum spore and young babies can't process it as well...??

mmm speaking of honey we get ours local as well and the blackberry honey is soooo good!
