Meat left out

My husband put a roast in the sink yesterday morning before church. I put it in the fridge last night, and it stayed there today. Is it ok to eat if I cook it really well?

I think so, but I'm not sure. Did it still feel frozen when you put it in the fridge?

So, it was only out of the fridge/freezer for maybe 12 hours? And it's a roast? if it was frozen when your DH put it in the sink, it should be fine. I'm pondering the frozen chicken I left out yesterday afternoon & all last night put it back in the fridge this am, so....I'll just cook the crap out of it.

Personally, I would not eat it, but I'm a stickler for food safety (and safety in general, I guess). Part of DH's duties at work include managing the hotel's resturaunt and he would throw a major fit if he caught me defrosting meat on the counter. I know a lot of people (including my mom and grandma) do this, but IMO it's not worth the risk. Maybe it's fine, but maybe it's not. Unfortunately, you won't really know until after you eat it.

Here's an article from the USDA on thawing...
